Where do you buy fabric in Austin?

    • abbyhall

Mostly JoAnns, but when I’m feeling adventurous, I shop online. Esty has some really cute prints (a bit pricey though).

  2. Damon Hall

Really well done! That was a really well made vid!

  3. Abby Elaina

    Thanks for watching Damon.

You have all the makings for a really cool, new TV show! Once you have a few more episodes, contact all the networks that could run this show….HGTV, Martha Stewart, etc.

I think you have a real winner here. I don’t sew at all and I think I can make that! Well done!!!!

  5. Alysha

I agree you should make a show. Id watch it!! U make it look so easy.

  6. Kara

This is great! Well done, my friend!

  7. Sam - Fluffyland Craft & Sewing Blog

This was a very well-done video! You definitely have a talent at this – I’m not good at staying on one web page for seven whole minutes, but you got me! What a lucky find with that bustier!

One comment I have : on your post title where you have “Episode One”, I’d recommend adding more of a title so readers will have a clue what the video’s about right from the start. Since the video screencap says “measure & cut elastic to fit your waist”, I honestly thought initially that that was the lesson of the entire episode. ha! Plus it will make it easier to sort through your archives once you have more videos. just a thought :)

You’re off to a lovely start & I can’t wait to see more of your tutorials!

    • abbyhall

Thank you for the advice Sam! I’ve done some edits. I can’t change the Picture on the youtube video, because you really only get 3 options for a screenshot and the other two were…. not flattering. But I really appreciate you watching my first episode. I’m such a fan of your blog, so much useful content! Thanks for sharing.

  11. Nessa

Where have you been hiding all my life? BLARG! Love this site, and I am really looking forward to your next episodes.

  12. Sandra X

Wow, you lucked out finding that perfect shirt- hope I can find one similar.

    • abbyhall

I’ve heard this comment a couple times “But what if I can’t find that exact shirt?”, the point is to keep your mind as open as possible when shopping for materials. If you want to do chic on the cheap, you have to keep your eyes open, and think creatively. Sometimes I have to go to 2-3 thrift stores, vintage stores or garage sales before I find what I’m looking for. The shirt I found, really doesn’t look anything like the bodice in the Anthropologie Dress, it was a different color, different material, and cut completely differently. But I had to think creatively, and imagine what materials can be used to create a similar look. Don’t get caught up in thinking you have to recreate the exact dress, change the fabric, the cut, the materials, just use this dress as inspiration. One tip I offer is to keep a folder on your phone of pictures of garments you would like to sew, flip through it while you shop and keep an eye out for anything that might work, I have shelves full of thrift store items that I haven’t decided what to do with yet! Thanks for checking out my blog, and good luck!!

  13. Denise Veretto Davis

    Great creative concept…love it!

  14. Tongue-in-cheek

How inconsiderate of you – did you think about all the poor marketing-MBA’s and advertising execs at Anthropologie??? Their lifestyle depends on marking-up $15 of material and chinese factory-slave labor and selling it to us at $250.

(Seriously, though – GREAT job, and great video. You are very talented, and thanks for sharing this with the internet.)

    • abbyhall

Ha ha, I do agree with you that that particular dress is overpriced. But, I’d really like to make sure everyone knows that I have the UTMOST respect for these designers. I, personally, would never pay that price for a garment unless it was something I couldn’t recreate myself, this dress doesn’t happen to be one of those garments. Thanks so much for the support! Episode Two will be out next week, please check back soon!

  15. Tony

    Cool video. It was fun.

  16. Samantha

    A rainy day in where?

  17. Rachel

I really like the music that is playing, who is that?

  18. Stephanie Sanchez

    Abby,
That was a GREAT episode! I really liked it and can’t wait to see more! It’s a whole different take on the fashion magazines that show you a “cheaper” version of a celebrities outfit. Instead of buying a cheaper version, you can make ur own for a fraction of the “cheaper” version price in the magazine! Great idea! Now if only I had your talent I’d have it made! :-)

Excellent! Well made video, excellent composition of video; easy to understand, fun and appealing, crafty and sustainable/frugal. I am so very impressed with your ideas and ability to execute them.

    • abbyhall

Mandi, Yes, keep following my blog, I have a couple cute bags, and some hair accessories in line for future episodes.

  23. Trisha

When does Episode 2 come out?

  24. Ross

Fantastic! I’ll have to show this to my girlfriend and try to convince her that we should get her sewing machine fixed. It’s probably a bit more difficult, but you should do something in men’s fashion at some point.

  25. Katrina

So kewl and easy. I am totally going to make this dress!!!!!!!!!!

  26. Amy

I actually saw this dress on their site and really wanted to buy it- so cool that you made the exact one.

  33. Edna

    love the site, very nice.

  34. Lorelei

Just discovered your site… and love it!
That dress is awesome and it suits you perfectly.
I wish Fabric would be that cheap as it in the US in Germany, too.
You actually pay 15€ for only one meter white cotton without any print or anything…
I actually think I will emigrate to the US after School and University.
    Love the US.
Well, great video (the other 5, too)

    Greetings from Germany
